The term “hosting” does not describe a single service, but a set of services which provide different functions to a domain address. Having a site and emails, for example, are two separate services although in the general case they come together, so a lot of people consider them as one single service. Actually, every single domain name has a number of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that manages each specific service - the first one is a numeric IP address, that specifies where the site for the domain is loaded from, while the second one is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that deals with the e-mails for the domain address. For instance, an A record would be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Every time you open a website or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. In case you have custom records on their end, the Internet browser request or the e-mail will be directed to the correct server. The concept behind working with separate records is that the two services work with different web protocols and you can have your site hosted by one company and the emails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, that comes with each and every hosting plan which we offer you, will enable you to see, modify and set up A and MX records for each domain or subdomain within your account. Using the DNS Records section, you are going to be able to see a list of all hosts within the account from a to z with their corresponding records, so any update is not going to take you more than a few mouse clicks. Creating new records is just as easy if, for instance, you wish to use the email services of a different company and they ask you to create more MX records than the default two. You can also set the priority for every single MX record by setting different latency. Put simply, when your e-mails are delivered, the sending server will contact the record with the smallest latency first and if the connection times out, it will contact the next one. Using our innovative tool, you are going to be able to handle the records of your domains and subdomains with ease even if you have no prior experience with such matters.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, provided with our semi-dedicated hosting plans, will allow you to view the A and MX records for every one of the domain addresses or subdomains in your account and if needed, to update any of them or create new ones. Managing these records is very easy because all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes only a few more clicks and if you experience any troubles, you can check out our educational videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by individuals with no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to give you total control over all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are moving your emails to a different company and they ask you to create more than 2 different MX records, you may choose the priority of each one.
